Mental Health Treatment Plan

Our GPs can help by creating a Mental Health Treatment Plan, which is an extended consultation where your doctor takes the time to understand your situation, symptoms, and possible contributing factors. Together, you’ll explore treatment options, which may include counselling, lifestyle strategies, or referral to a psychologist.

With a Mental Health Treatment Plan in place, Medicare provides funding for up to 10 psychotherapy sessions each calendar year. This usually begins with 6 sessions. If further support is needed, your GP can arrange a review to access an additional 4 sessions.

Since November 2025, Medicare only funds Mental Health Treatment Plans prepared by your usual GP, or at the practice you’re registered with through MyMedicare. Registering with us through MyMedicare is free – just ask our reception team.

We are here to ensure you feel listened to, supported, and guided towards the right care for your individual needs.
