Emergeny Medical Centre
If your condition is life threatening or requires hospital care please dial 000 to call for an ambulance.
The nearest hospitals with Emergency Departments are the Angliss Hospital in Upper Ferntree Gully or Casey Hospital in Berwick.
Our GPs and nurses are experienced at reacting to and managing a number of medical emergencies and we have the facilities to assist with matters such as:
- Acutely unwell children
- Chest pains
- Stroke
- Asthma attacks
- Diabetic emergencies, eg hypos, diabetic ketoacidosis
- Allergies & anaphylaxis
- Seizures & collapse
- Haemorrhage
- Trauma
- Risk to self
Our staff will endeavour to initiate management but with any critical emergency we will call an ambulance to transfer out to a hospital’s emergency department where life-saving treatment needs to be given.
After Hours Care
You can book in by telephone or online for appointments from 9am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday but we understand that some people can not get to the medical centre in those hours so we do offer extended hours Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday evenings until 8pm and Saturday mornings 8.30am to 12.30pm.
At Emerald Medical Centre we strive to provide continuous care but we do not have the facilities nor the manpower to provide a 24 hour service nor a Sunday Clinic.
If you call the surgery after hours you will hear a taped message which explains when the surgery is next open.
After hours home doctor visits are available to registered patients of Emerald Medical Centre via the Doctor Doctor locum service. Please note that this service is unavailable in Nangana. To contact the Doctor Doctor Locum Medical Service, please call 13 26 60.
For after hours attention please attend accident and emergency centre at your nearest available hospital.
After Hours GP Helpline
The Australian Government also provides a free after hours helpline for when your GP is not available. More information can be found at the health direct website.
