Cervical Screening

At Emerald Medical Centre, we’re committed to supporting women’s health and wellbeing at every stage of life. A key part of this care is routine cervical screening, which helps protect against cervical cancer.

Cervical screening is recommended for women and people with a cervix aged 25 to 74, even if you are no longer sexually active. Regular screening is one of the most effective ways to detect early changes and prevent more serious illness.

Screening is now recommended every five years and is carried out using a simple vaginal PCR swab. This test looks for the presence of the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV), which is the main cause of cervical cell changes. The swab can be taken by one of our caring clinicians, or you may choose to self-collect in the privacy of our clinic.

If you have any symptoms that need closer investigation, your doctor may recommend a traditional cervical screening procedure (previously known as a Pap test).

You can book a cervical screening consultation with one of our GPs, or with our experienced Nurse Cervical Screening Provider, Amy Robertson. Nurse appointments are bulk billed, while standard GP consult fees apply for doctor appointments.

Contraception

Choosing the right contraception is a personal decision, and what suits one person may not suit another. At Emerald Medical Centre, our doctors are here to guide you through the options available, answer your questions, and help you find the method that best fits your lifestyle and health needs.

If you’re interested in long-acting contraception, some of our doctors are able to provide Implanon insertion and removal. Please check with our reception team for more information or to find out which doctors offer this service.

We encourage you to book an appointment with your GP to discuss your options in a supportive and confidential environment.

Pregnancy Care

Pregnancy is an exciting and sometimes overwhelming journey, and our team at Emerald Medical Centre is here to support you along the way. Our GPs and nurses are available to provide advice and assistance with a wide range of pregnancy-related matters, both before and after your baby arrives.

We can help with:

  • General health and lifestyle advice during pregnancy

  • Guidance on common symptoms and medical concerns

  • Referrals for antenatal blood tests and scans

While we don’t provide specialised antenatal obstetric care at our clinic, we can connect you with trusted local services and specialists to ensure you receive the care you need throughout your pregnancy.

Our goal is to be a supportive first point of contact, offering reassurance, guidance, and referrals to the right care for you and your baby.

Menopause Support

Menopause is a natural stage of life, but the transition can bring physical, emotional, and hormonal changes that feel challenging to navigate. Our doctors and nurses are here to provide compassionate care and practical support during this time. Whether you’re experiencing symptoms such as hot flushes, sleep disturbances, mood changes, or would simply like to understand your options, we can guide you through lifestyle strategies, symptom management, and medical treatments where appropriate.
