Implanon at Emerald Medical Centre

Implanon is a small, flexible rod placed just under the skin of the inner upper arm. It slowly releases a hormone to prevent pregnancy, making it a reliable, long-acting and reversible form of contraception.

Some of our GPs provide Implanon insertion and removal here at the clinic. Please ask our reception team which doctors offer this when you book. We can remove an existing implant and insert a new one on the same day.

Implanon: Your Questions Answered

Generally, yes. You’ll first have a consultation with your GP, who will give you a script for the implant. You then buy the implant from a pharmacy and come back for the insertion appointment.
A standard appointment is usually enough for the first conversation. If you’d like to discuss all your contraception options in detail, book a long appointment. Insertion appointments are usually booked for 30 minutes.
Yes. We can remove your existing implant and insert a new one at the same appointment.
Implanon insertion and removal are procedures, privately billed (including for concession card holders), with a fee for equipment and consumables. See our Payment Information page for current fees.
